DESTINATION FOCUS- MALDIVES: HEAVEN ON EARTH

Off the tip of India and Sri Lanka surely lies ‘heaven on earth’. Consisting of hundreds of tiny coral islands scattered across the Indian Ocean is the Maldives. Most of these Islands are only 2 metres above sea level and are quickly eroding away, soon to be almost forgotten. From the moment you set foot on your speedboat to be transferred from male airport to your chosen island you know something special lies ahead.

Traveling over the turquoise water covering coral reefs perfect for the scuba diving enthusiast, you catch glimpses of the environment friendly resorts rimmed by powder soft white sanded beaches dotted with palm trees…..surely this is paradise.

The Maldives is not a destination for Mr.& Mrs. Action Adventure although it does offer some of the most spectacular diving spots in the world and most motorized boating activities. It is however for those looking for the ultimate in romance, peace and solitude with a spot of snorkeling thrown in to work off the sumptuous feasts shared with your fellow indulgers at mealtimes.

The hardest decision whilst staying at the Maldives????? Mmmmmm………where shall I place my sun bed today? In the heavenly warm water, under the shade of the palms or where I can bury my feet in the silky, soft sand?

" The South of India is like tracing back to Bali in the early years of its discovery. The magnificent ocean at Lighthouse Beach used for board and body surfing is lined with restaurants and bars built from recycled timber and tin selling everything from banana jaffles to chapatti, tandoori chicken to the most wonderfully aromatic southern Indian fish curries that taste just as wondrous, to personally chosen crayfish feasts.

There are also shops selling jewelry, beautifully embroided cloth, carvings, rugs and clothing. What a delight to bargain with these people, what a delight it brings to them. "
